Gear & Reviews Hub

Choosing baby products can mean sorting through features, claims and long lists of things to buy. Find considered guides that explain what a product is for, what to compare and what may be bought, borrowed, reused or left for later.

See how product advice should work

What are you trying to work out?

Start with the job a product needs to do and the constraints that matter to your family. You do not need to buy everything at once.

What do I actually need?

Sort useful, optional and situation-dependent items, with room to buy later, borrow or reuse where appropriate.

What will work for our home and routine?

Compare options by fit, storage, access, travel and intended use, rather than appearance alone.

Start with the decision, not the shopping list

A useful buying guide helps you decide whether a product solves a real need and which trade-offs matter for your situation. It should make “wait”, “borrow”, “reuse” or “buy nothing” reasonable outcomes where appropriate.

  • Newborn and home essentials: Work out what may be useful for your setup and what can wait, with clear distinctions between essential, optional and preference-based items. Explore newborn buying guides
  • Getting around: Compare options by your routes, storage, transport needs and compatibility. Safety and fitting claims need current sources and careful scope. Explore travel and transport guides
  • Feeding and care equipment: Understand intended use, practical fit, maintenance and relevant alternatives without confusing product content with health advice. Explore feeding and care guides
  • Buying for changing needs: Consider what may be reusable, outgrown or situation-dependent as your baby grows. Explore first-year buying guides

Make the method visible

A review should tell you what was assessed and how. Readers need to know whether a product was used hands-on or assessed through research and specifications, which criteria mattered, what did not work, what was not assessed and who may or may not find it suitable.

Product comparisons should make the use case and criteria clear, distinguish sourced specifications from editorial judgement, explain meaningful trade-offs and avoid naming a universal “best”.

Clear criteria. Visible trade-offs.

Good product advice explains who a product may suit, what it is designed to do, what evidence supports the description, what limitations matter and whether the recommendation has a commercial connection. Appearance alone is not a substitute for safety, fit or performance. Readers should be able to make an informed choice, including a decision not to buy.

Any affiliate, gifted or sponsored relationship should be stated clearly before or near the relevant recommendation.
